Undergraduate Student Awards

In April, undergraduate students presented their research at the annual undergraduate research poster party. The event includes the announcement of the winners of student research scholarships and poster and thesis awards offered internally by the department, and the announcement of distinguished awards external to the university.

Goldwater Scholarship

Monique Kubovsky has been awarded a Goldwater Scholarship for the year 2025. Her research proposal, titled “Ferromagnetic Domain Movement in Hole-doped Manganites at Low Current Densities,” was one of three scholarships awarded to UF students. Monique has been working on this project with her adviser, Prof. Amlan Biswas.

CLAS – Undergraduate Scholars Program

Scholars receive a stipend of $1750 for conducting mentored research for the 2025-2026 academic year. Recipients and mentors for this year are Neha Prince (mentor: Amlan Biswas), Hubert Pugzlys (Chungjing Jia), Nathan Rao (Dominique Laroche), and Samuel Sebastian (Siyao Xu).

David R. Griggs Award

This award recognizes an outstanding senior thesis. This year, the award was given to Rachel Prempeh (mentor: Jeffrey Andrews)

Chris Schaffer Award

This award supports students research during Summer 2025. This year, the award was given to Natalie Meyer (Jeffrey Andrews) and Carrel Moralez (James Hamlin)

William Oegerle Scholarship in Physics and Astronomy

This award supports student research for the academic year. This year, the award in physics was given to Monique Kubovsky (Amlan Biswas) and for astronomy went to David Fulcher (Elizabeth Lada).

CCMS Undergraduate Fellowships

Three students received support of $2000 to conduct research with a member of the Center for Condensed Matter on research related to the activities of the center. This year, the award was given to three students: Rahil Shaik (Yasu Takano), Jeremy Ehrenpreis (BingKan Xue), and Mateo Halka (Yoonseok Lee).
