PHY 2054 (Physics 2 without Calculus) Fall 2017

Online Homework (WebAssign)

Important notice: Online homework must represent your own work and the use of other solutions constitutes academic dishonesty. This is discussed on the course Academic Honesty page.

You can access the WebAssign online homework system from the e-Learning course homepage or by clicking a homework assignment listed on the Assignments page. Make sure that popup blockers are turned off in your browser. The first time you access WebAssign, you will be directed to an e-Learning page with the title "WebAssign. Link Account." If you have an existing WebAssign account for any course, for instance PHY2053 in a previous semester, fill the boxes and click "LINK ACCOUNT." If you have no existing account, click "I don't have a WebAssign account."

If you have purchased the textbook from the publisher, as described on the course Overview page, then WebAssign access is included and the publisher will send you an access code card. You don't need to wait for the access code card to begin completing homework assignments. You have a 14-day grace period for which you may use WebAssign before needing to either pay WebAssign directly or enter your access code card number.

If you need more detailed instructions, read this pdf.

Note that the first online homework assignment is due on Tuesday, Sep. 5. The table below gives the assigned problems and due dates. Once the due date/time has passed no further input of answers for credit will be accepted. It is your responsibility to get your homework in on time. Last minute computer/local server problems will not excuse you from this responsibility given the fact that the homework can be started many days in advance.

WebAssign Homework Problems:

  • The problems come from your textbook. However, the values for masses, charges, angles, etc. for each problem are different for each student.
  • You will have five tries to get the correct answer. You will not be counted off for "significant figures", however to get credit your answer must be correct within 2% with correct sign.
  • For most of the problems WebAssign will give you a “hint” after the third incorrect try.
To provide a measure of forgiveness for illnesses and possible network problems, 10% of the on-line homework grades will be dropped in evaluating your final grade. Don't wait until the last minute when submitting homework in case something happens.
